Privacy policy

Hangman.org is a free word game. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address or any other personal details to play. This page explains the small amount of data the game does use.
Data stored on your device
The game saves a few things in your browser's local storage so it can remember them between visits: your progress on the daily word and its record (games played, wins, streak), the words you have solved in each category and your current round, your best streak per category, and whether you have already been counted in today's player count. This data never leaves your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Player counts and completion statistics
When you finish a word, the game adds one to an anonymous counter for that day's word or that category, and one to the count of players for the day the first time you finish a word. These counters are hosted by the free Abacus counting service (abacus.jasoncameron.dev). Only the counter is increased: no identifier, account or game content is sent with it, although, like any web request, the service can see your IP address and browser type. The daily word itself is loaded from our own server.
Analytics and server logs
We may use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to count page views. Like most websites, our hosting and content delivery providers keep short-lived server logs (IP address, browser type, requested page and time) for security and to keep the site running.
Fonts and flags
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and language flags from flagcdn.com. These providers receive your IP address when your browser downloads the files.
Cookies and advertising
The game itself does not set cookies. If advertising is added, it may use cookies or similar technology from the advertising partner, and this policy will be updated before that happens.
Your rights and contact
Because we do not hold personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you have a question about this policy, write to [email protected].
